Educational Philosophy

The classroom, for me, is a living learning community in which all voices must be heard and valued. In order to support all of my students, I must make space to truly see them. Additionally, I must be intentional in how I structure my courses. By this, I mean that when I plan my courses, I keep first and foremost in mind: 1. what it is that I want my students to intellectually learn, 2. what I want my students to be able to physically do by the end of the term, and 3. how I want my students to feel about their learning experience. For me, Spanish language, literature, and culture as well as history provide the opportunity for a fourth pillar: how what they learn, what they do, and what they feel will prepare them for the world in which they live. For that reason, I must be culturally responsive.
